Varsity and Novice Winter Training
This program is for Varsity & Novice (1st year or Beginner) rowers seeking to continue building strength, fitness and technical skills over the winter months in preparation for the Spring rowing season. Training is 5 days per week: Monday to Friday; Boys 3:45-5:15pm and Girls 5:15-6:45pm. Training will be conducted by GLR Varsity Coach, Mike Kapp and Head Novice Coach, Thomas Kapp. If your goal is to hit C2 erg PR’s and to be in the best possible rowing shape for the Spring, then GLR Winter training is for you.
Sessions will include a variety of strength & skill-appropriate gym & weight workouts, plus technique & cardio on the ergs (C2 Indoor rowers) and a weekly Spin Class with Professional Spin instructor on pro-grade spin cycles. Once a week will include a main compound lift work (Bench, Deadlift and Squats).

This program is for Middle School (Grades 6th, 7th and 8th) rowers & complete beginners who want to learn or improve rowing skills & build fitness over the winter months, in preparation for the Middle School on-water or potentially Novice Spring rowing season. Training is held 3 days per week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with practice being the 5:15-6:45pm on Tuesday/Thursday and a bit earlier 4:00-5:30pm on Wednesdays. Sessions are divided between age-appropriate gym & strength work, plus technique & cardio workouts on the ergs (C2 Indoor rowers). The Middle School winter programs will be coached by our Head Novice Coach Thomas Kapp who will be guiding the youngest group of rowers at GLR to taking the next steps in competitive rowing!
