2021 Summer Youth Programs

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Greater Lawrence Rowing is only able to offer a restricted selection of youth programs for Middle School, High School and Youth athletes for Summer 2021, commencing Monday, June 21. Programs for Summer 2021 are offered in two 4-week Sessions on a small group basis.

Health & Safety Notice:

  • All programs are scheduled with at least a 30 minute break between them to allow for GLR’s comprehensive equipment cleaning protocols
  • All athletes will be required to social-distance & wear a mask on land and around the boathouse. Masks may be removed once launched when is a single scull or trusted training cohort.
  • GLR has invested in abundant amounts of hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray to ensure all oars and equipment as safe as they can possibly be. Equipment is sprayed and sanitized between each groups’ use.
  • All GLR Coaches & Greater Lawrence Community Boating Program Staff have been trained in required Covid-19 Safety Protocols. Full details of the Boathouse Covid-19 Safety Protocols can be found at www.communityboating.com
  • All participating athletes will be required to provide a signed Covid-19 Waiver form that can be downloaded here.
Youth HPG
Places in the Youth High Performance Group are offered on an application & invitation basis only to U17 & U19 1V athletes (Girls & Boys mixed). Boats used will be Racing Singles, Racing Doubles, Pairs, 4x, 4+ at the coach’s discretion (Coach Bob Sheetz) based on established training cohorts.  Please email Coach Mitch to apply.

Monday, Wednesday & Thursday 6:00-8:00am;  Tuesday 8:30-10:30am

Youth Competitive

This program is for experienced U17 & U19 Varsity Athletes (Girls & Boys mixed) with at least one year’s experience rowing and racing in sculling boats and sweep boats and at least two consecutive seasons of competitive rowing at the high school level.

Practice: 3 Days per week

Monday & Wednesday  8:30-10:30am; Tuesday 6:00-8:00am

Fee: $230 (per Session)

High School Learn to Scull / Learn to Row

This program is for High School Athletes (Girls & Boys mixed) who have little to no sculling or rowing experience. In this program you will start from the beginning in a training scull and training sweep catamaran to build skills that will enable you to row in recreational and possibly racing singles and sweep-oared team boats.

A swim test is required for those that don’t already have one on file.  The swim test form can be found here.

Youth Rec Sculling

The Youth Rec program is for athletes (Girls & Boys mixed) with at least one year’s sculling experience. This is a non-competitive program for those seeking to maintain fitness and enjoy the recreational benefits of sculling while improving their skills and technique under the guidance of a Coach. Boats available to use include the club’s Rec Singles, Training Singles, Double sculls and Quad Sculls depending on Covid-safe training cohorts.

A swim test is required for those that don’t already have one on file.  The swim test form can be found here.

The Youth Novice Rec Sculling program is for Novice Athletes (Girls & Boys mixed) with at least one season’s sculling experience. (For example: GLR ‘Mighty Mids’ Middle School Quads) This is a non-competitive program for those seeking to maintain fitness and enjoy the recreational benefits of sculling while improving their skills and technique under the guidance of a Coach. Boats available to use include the club’s Rec Singles, Training Singles, Double sculls and Quad Sculls depending on Covid-safe training cohorts at the discretion of coaching staff.
