2023 Summer Youth Programs

In Summer 2023 GLR will be offering youth rowing programs for Middle School, High School and Youth athletes for Summer 2023, starting on Monday, June 19th. Programs for Summer 2023 are offered in two 4-week Sessions going from mid June to mid August.

*Swim Test*

For all GLR programs a swim test is required for those that don’t already have one on file.  The swim test form can be found here.

Summer 2023 High Performance Group

This program is by invitation only for experienced U17, U19 & U23 athletes with at least one year’s experience rowing and racing in sculling boats or sweep boats and at least two consecutive seasons of competitive rowing at the high school level. Athletes who would like to participate in the HPG team should be able to perform a sub 7:15 (Boys) and sub 8:15 (Girls) 2000m test.

Training will focus on increasing fitness, developing high speed rowing technique and producing strength during the best time of the year to be rowing. The Summer competitive teams will be run by director and head coach Mike Kapp.

The Summer HPG group will be racing at summer regattas in 2023. If you are interested in joining the Summer HPG please reach out to Head Coach Mike Kapp at Mikek@glrowing.org

Summer Session: June 19th through August 10th

Fee: $675 (Full Summer 8 weeks)

Competitive Youth Rowing

This program is for experienced U15, u17 and u 19 athletes with at least one year’s experience rowing and racing in sculling boats or sweep boats and at least two consecutive seasons of competitive rowing at the high school level. Training will focus on increasing fitness, developing high speed rowing technique and producing strength during the best time of the year to be rowing. Rowing will be focused on sweeping in 8s and 4s with some opportunity to scull. The Summer competitive teams will be run by director and head coach Mike Kapp. The Summer Competitive Youth program will be racing at summer regattas in 2023.

Varsity and Novice Recreational Rowing

The Youth Rec program is for athletes (Girls & Boys mixed) with at least one year’s rowing experience. This is a non-competitive program for those seeking to maintain fitness and enjoy the recreational benefits of sculling or sweeping while improving their skills and technique under the guidance of a Coach. Boats available to use include the club’s Rec Singles, Training Singles, Double sculls, and larger sweep boats.

High School Learn to Row

This program is for High School Athletes (Girls & Boys mixed) who have little to no sculling or rowing experience. In this program you will start from the beginning in a training sweep catamaran to build skills that will enable you to row in recreational and possibly racing singles and sweep-oared team boats. The Summer learn to Row programs will be run by Novice Head coach Thomas Kapp.
