U23 Winter Training

To help support U23 athletes who are home for the holidays, GLR has created a special 4 week Morning Winter Program tailored specifically for collegiate rowers.

The program starts straight after Thanksgiving on Monday November 30 and runs through to January 8 (with a two week break for the Holidays between Dec 21-Jan 1)

For two hours (7-9am) every weekday for 4 weeks you will have full access to GLR’s huge 13,000sqft Winter Training Facility in Lawrence’s Riverwalk complex.  Equipment includes:

  • 20 x C2 Ergs in your choice of a single private room right up to our Erg Studio #1 that contains 10 ergs spaced at a distance exceeding the latest USRowing guidance.
  • “The Lift Loft” – rack cages, trap bars, bench press, dumbbells and more Olympic weight plates than you could ever lift.
  • 20 x Pro-Grade Spin Cycles
  • Stretching and mobility space with rollers, Swiss balls, med balls etc.

A full time Coach will be in attendance for all sessions, as will full-time GLR Staff for Covid screening and cleaning protocols.

This program is designed to be as flexible as you would like to make it. You may have an erg program from your college coach but just need a C2 erg over the break to get it done, or you may want to have access to a raft of rowing specific strength & conditioning equipment that you don’t have at home.

Come alone or bring a trusted training partner – the choice is yours. All training at GLR is conducted under strict Covid health & safety protocols. Every person entering the facility is screened and temperature checked. Masks are worn at all times where social distancing is not possible. If training alone or in a ‘trusted training partner pod’ you are free to exercise without a mask. This is a 13,000 square foot space. With a maximum safety cap of just 12 athletes, that’s over 1,000 square feet per U23 athlete.

The session fee is $300 for 20 two-hour sessions. That’s $7.50 per hour – with no membership or equipment fees!

All athletes are required to complete and sign a Covid Waiver form (downloadable here) and a GLR general rowing waiver (downloadable here). All ergs, spin cycles, weights and other equipment are sanitized after every session. Full Boathouse Covid Safety Protocols can be viewed here

Registration is now open through Regatta Central. The U23 Cohort is restricted to just 12 athletes for the 4-week session. Phone a friend or come alone and share a socially distanced workout with fellow collegiate athletes. It’s guaranteed to beat the monotony of slugging out the miles by yourself in the basement.
