Members of Greater Lawrence Rowing girls 4+ travelled to Sarasota, Florida June 11-14 to compete in the 2015 Youth National Championship regatta.  Coxswain Allie Nussbuam, rowers Elli Mapstone, Grace Bentley, Maddy Coady, and Sydney Gillman, along with alternate Maureen Tyner and Coach Harry Finch arrived in hot and sunny Sarasota Thursday morning to prepare for racing over the next few days at Nathan Benderson Park.  That evening, the three seniors on the squad, Allie, Elli and Maureen, participated in the first annual USRowing Graduation Athlete Celebration, to recognize rowing seniors with a Certificate of Excellence.

On the first day of racing, conditions were hot and windy.  In these heats, first place finishers automatically go to the semi-finals, while everyone else goes on to the repechages.  GLR, racing in the fourth and final heat, turned in a time of 7:41.182 from lane 7, placing 5th in their heat, and 16th overall.  Shortly after their race, the skies opened up with heavy rain and thunderstorms, postponing the remaining race until the next morning.

The conditions were similar to the previous day for the repachages; hot and windy.  GLR drew lane 6 of the second race for the Women’s 4+ Rep, and raced against some fast boats.  They finished with a time of 7:50.397, placing 4th in their race.  Unfortunately, after all the races were completed, GLR was eliminated from the competition, ending up 22nd overall in the country.

Congratulations to the GLR girls 4+ team for a great season!!
